The Health and Safety Executive is an independent regulator. Our work touches virtually every sector of Great Britainâs industries and the constantly evolving nature of work and technology. Combining experts from numerous fields, our employees strive to keep people and their working environments safe. We dont just inspect workplaces and enforce the law, we campaign for better H&S practice, we shape and review guidance and regulations, we provide specialist products and services both here and overseas, and we produce crucial research and statistics, all towards our goal #HelpGBWorkWell.
Job description

Our mission is to prevent death, injury and ill health in Great Britain’s workplaces.

It is 40 years since the Health and Safety at Work Act received Royal Assent, providing a new regulatory framework for work place health and safety in Great Britain. This has helped make Britain one of the safest places in the world to work, saving thousands of lives, preventing many more injuries at work and reducing the economic and social costs of health and safety failures.

The HSE's work covers a varied range of activities; from shaping and reviewing regulations, producing research and statistics and enforcing the law. We focus our efforts where they will have the greatest impact in driving behavioural change and improving health and safety standards and the annual statistics continue to show that our efforts and those of all of our stakeholders are being effective in driving down the occurrences of death, injury and ill health in the workplace.

As workplaces change, so do health and safety need. It's a dynamic and evolving arena that's constantly presenting fresh challenges. We are always looking at new, innovative and imaginative ways to build an effective health and safety culture in the UK: one that will protect people and save more lives.

Continuing to be an effective regulator will remain at the heart of what HSE does, but a new focus will see us exploiting the many commercial opportunities that our world-class reputation offers.

While maintaining our overall strategic direction and playing our part in improving Great Britain’s health and safety performance we will continue to improve and modernise our approach to ensure we continue to succeed in meeting the challenges we face. This includes ensuring we provide the right IT services across HSE to help us meet the challenges and embrace digital technology.
