JOB DESCRIPTION
PLATING OPERATIVE

Co-ordinates activities with: Jigging, Wiring & Packing Operatives, Laboratory, Inspection,
Health & Safety Advisor

Carries out processing activities in accordance with safety and quality standards ensuring efficient and careful handling of customers work.


• Ensures that the proper safety precautions are observed at all times for the use of corrosive and toxic chemicals and the operation of all plant and equipment. Wears personal protective clothing such as anti-acid boots, aprons, overalls, gloves, goggles and eye shields as necessary.

• Carries out the process instructions identified on the job card. Calculates loadings appropriate for machine, jig or barrel. Sets and uses correctly all instruments relative to processing, ie. thermometers, ammeters, voltmeters, amp min meters, timers, pH papers. Processes work to specified thickness and or relevant specification instructed on the job card. Records necessary processing data.

• Uses test pieces as necessary to monitor thickness during processing. Examines own work for potential quality problems. Submits representative samples for inspection and test.

• Carries out maintenance schedules using departmental forms where provided. Ensures that all electrical contacts are clean. Replenishes process solutions with maintenance chemicals according to instructions from Supervisor. Cleans out tanks and filters as required.

• Maintains work area, plant and equipment in clean and tidy condition and observes good house keeping standards.

• Participates in customer (internal & external) complaint investigations & ensures timely corrective & preventive actions are implemented. Re-works non-conforming material to specified instructions. If stripping the original deposit is requested, checks with the supervisor for any precautions before commencing.

Vocational experience in industrial environment
Ability to understand written process instructions and health & safety warning notices
Able to work with minimum supervision and organise a personal workload
